Green Schools Program 2020

Terms & Conditions

The Recyclebank Green Schools Program (the “Program”) is intended to support and encourage local schools to develop and implement projects (“School Projects”) in furtherance of Recyclebank’s sustainability-focused vision.

RTS Recyclebank, LLC (“Recyclebank” or “Sponsor”)  will accept applications  from individual schools within Rochester Hills, Michigan (the “Municipality”), for eligibility to earn a grant of up to $1,500 per accepted school, to be used to fund the project proposed in the school’s application (its “Project”), subject to the Terms and Conditions. In order for a school to be eligible for selection in the Program, its application must be received by Recyclebank by 12:00 AM on March 31, 2020. The implementation phase of the Program – during which Recyclebank members who are residents of the Municipality (“Local Members”) can donate Recyclebank rewards points to schools accepted to the Program – will begin at 12:01 a.m. EST on April 29, 2020 (the “Program Start Date,” when we will award grants in response to applications received) and will end at 11:59 p.m. EST on May 31, 2020 (the “Program End Date” and the period from the Program Start Date until the Program End Date, the  “Program Period”).

A school is eligible for selection to participate in the Program if it:

  1. is located within the Municipality;
  2. provides elementary and/or secondary school education (Kindergarten – 12th grade);
  3. is a registered tax-exempt educational organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or can otherwise provide appropriate documentation indicating it is a tax-exempt government entity;
  4. submits a unique Project not similar in nature or substance to a project funded previously under the same or a similar program for that school;
  5. submits a Program application with all required supplemental documentation in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

The Program is limited to a maximum of 10 participant schools per academic cycle. Recyclebank will select schools from among the pool of qualified applicants in its sole discretion. Applicant schools are not guaranteed participation in the Program solely on account of meeting the eligibility criteria set forth above or elsewhere in these Terms and Conditions. By submitting an application to Recyclebank, each applicant through its designated signatory expressly accepts these Terms and Conditions and agrees to be bound by the Recyclebank’s decisions. Schools selected for participation in the Program (“Participant Schools”) will be notified and posted live on at the beginning of the Program Period, during which time Local Members will have the ability to donate their Reward Points online to help each Participant School raise its funding target. Each Participant School is encouraged to promote its participation in the Program in its community in order to raise its point donations.

Program participation is built around Participant Schools earning their respective desired grant amounts – or a portion thereof – through Recyclebank rewards points donations made by Local Members through Recyclebank’s rewards platform,. Recyclebank Members will have the option to donate any part of their respective earned Reward Points in support of one or more of the Projects during the Program Period via the Recyclebank website. RTS Recyclebank will award One U.S. Dollar ($1.00) of a Participant School’s target grant for every 250 Rewards Points donated by a Local Member to a Participant School’s featured Project, with each Participant School having a maximum grant potential of One Thousand Five Hundred U.S. Dollars ($1,500; note that some Participant Schools may have applied for less funding and that their opportunity will be capped at the corresponding figure). Within 120 days after the end of the Program Period, each Participant School will receive a grant (a “Grant”) from Recyclebank in an amount equal to the cash equivalent of the rewards points donated to such Participant School by Local Members during the Program Period, as converted by Recyclebank in accordance with the Terms and Conditions (not to exceed $1,500). Notwithstanding the foregoing, Recyclebank reserves the right at any time to change or modify point-to-grant conversion ratio (if, for example, a school is approaching its limit early in the Program Period, we may alter the value to encourage more sustained engagement). Local Members may donate multiple times to multiple Participant Schools during the Program Period. THE PROGRAM IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW and is subject to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Participation is subject to the Sponsor’s Privacy Policy (

Each Grant must be used in its entirety by the applicable Participant School to fund the Project intended to promote sustainable community building. The Project must conform with all of the following criteria:

  1. The Project must engage the students by offering education on the power and impact of environmentally friendly behavior;
  2. The Project must not be a single event but rather have sustainability component or legacy that extends beyond the current school year;
  3. The Project must have a detailed budget (required to be submitted with the application); and

  1. The Project must be completed by the academic year following the end of the Program Period.

In selecting Participant Schools, Recyclebank considers, among other things, the following criteria in order to assess whether the applicant’s Project is in keeping with Recyclebank’s mission. Does the Project:

  1. Offer innovative approaches to communicate and further environmental issues within the community?;
  2. Provide strong educational programming to the students and the community with follow-up opportunities for learning?;
  3. Create new ways of thinking, acting and behaving in relation to the environment?;
  4. Empower students to be “heroes” (e.g. educators, stewards or advocates) for a sustainable environmental in their community?;
  5. Encourage partnerships among formal and informal educational systems?; and
  6. Facilitate partnerships between schools and community organizations?

This list is intended to provide general guidelines and is not intended to be exhaustive.

The Project may not relate to or involve the following:

  1. Capital campaigns or expenditures, such as cameras, computers, park and recreational equipment, land acquisition, furniture, or traditional school supplies that could be used outside the proposed program;
  2. School programs/bands/orchestras/art/other classes that do not have an eco-focused component;
  3. Plugging budget shortfalls, general support, or endowment funds;
  4. Staffing of personnel;
  5. Fundraising events, event sponsorships, and/or the purchase of tables at events;
  6. Solo travel (such as Outward Bound, Peace Corp, etc.);
  7. Food for events or prizes, unless directed toward changing sustainability-related behavior;
  8. Scholarships or fellowship programs;
  9. Grants to individuals;

10.Political campaigns or organizations;

11.Programs that are non-inclusive (i.e. excluding students with disabilities);

12.The production of promotional giveaways or prizes (e.g. shirts); or

13.Production of materials (e.g. books, software, etc.) for later sale.

Each Project will be reviewed as part of the application process to ensure adherence to the criteria. There is no substitution or transfer of the Grant allowed. Each Participant School will be solely responsible for all other expenses not specifically set forth herein. Recyclebank is responsible only for making a Grant to each Participant School to which Local Members have donated sufficient rewards points during the Program Period and bears no responsibility around any costs, supplies, filings, permits, installation, implementation, or other material or labor associated with the Project of each participant school, or around outcomes. Any and all federal, state, and local taxes on the Grant, including income and/or sales taxes, if applicable, are the sole responsibility of the applicable Participant School. All Grants must be applied to the Participant School’s Project by the end of the academic year following the Program.

Each Participant School will be notified by April 22, 2020 of its potential Grant under the Program. In the event a Participant School does not accept a Grant, the Project for which funds are accepted is materially different from the information disclosed in the Program application or does not meet the Program criteria, or the Participant School is rendered ineligible, Recyclebank reserves the right to reverse or pull its Grant offer. Recyclebank is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify a Participant School of its potential Grant. The Participant School expressly agrees to Recyclebank’s royalty-free use of the school’s name – in furtherance of the Program – and to use of other information about the school, its Project, photograph(s) or depictions of the school submitted with the application (if any) and Grant information for promotional purposes in any medium without additional compensation to the extent permitted by law.

Recyclebank and its respective agents, directors, officers, shareholders, employees, insurers, servants, parents, subsidiaries, divisions, affiliates, predecessors, successors, representatives, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors (the “Released Entities”), are not responsible for, shall not be liable for, and hereby disclaim all liability arising from or relating to: (i) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, computer or other malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind, whether human or technical; (ii) failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer or e-mail transmissions; (iii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Sponsor; (iv) any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of a Grant, or any portion thereof that may have been awarded, or acceptance, possession, or use of a Grant, or any portion thereof that may have been awarded, or from participation in the Program; or (v) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Program. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend, modify or cancel the Program or any component of the Program (x) should any unauthorized human intervention or other causes corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Program or (y) in the event Recyclebank’s contract with the Municipality is terminated for any reason. By participating in the Program, participant schools agree to release, discharge and hold harmless the Released Entities, and all others associated with the development and execution of the Program, from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind arising out of or relating to the Program, participation in the Program, the Grant, or any portion thereof that may have been awarded, and/or acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the Grant, or any portion thereof that may have been awarded, including but not limited to statutory and common law claims for misappropriation or participant’s right of publicity. This Program shall be governed by New York State law, without regard to conflicts of laws principles of such State. By participating in this Program, participants agree that New York courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute or litigation arising from or relating to this Program and that venue shall be only in New York, New York.
