London, 12th  November 2012 – Recyclebank, the company that motivates people to take everyday green actions by rewarding green behaviour with exclusive offers, today announced the ongoing success of its programme and the impact it’s having on recycling. The latest figures from DEFRA’s 2011/12 National Statistics Release  have revealed that recycling performance in England has increased by 1.5% (from 41.5% to 43%) showing a similar increase to last year and concerns have been raised about recycling performance now slowing over the last two years.

Recyclebank members in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) continue to exceed the current nationwide trend, repeating last year’s excellent improvement. RBWM’s, recycling performance has grown 3 times faster than this year’s national average, adding 4.5% points to their recycling rate. Over 3,300 tonnes more household waste was sent for recycling, an increase of 12.5% on last year.

Following impressive performance last year, which saw recycling rates in Halton Borough Council (HBC) increase by up to 5 times that year’s national average Recyclebank has also been delighted to see that in HBC, recycling performance has also grown ahead of the national average, adding 1.8% in this borough. Individual households are now putting out 46kg less residual waste than they were last year. In HBC, 3,000 tonnes more household waste was sent for recycling, an increase of over 14% on last year.

Recyclebank prides itself on the number of engaged members it now has on board. Member registration levels continue to grow and Recyclebank continues to motivate its members to recycle more. Key partners such as Marks & Spencer have continued to show their commitment to the programme by renewing their partnership recently. Recyclebank members have earned over 84 million points in the last year, and redeemed these for over 250,000 rewards.

Andy Watt, Managing Director EMEA at Recyclebank said, “We are so pleased with the efforts of our partner boroughs in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Halton Borough Council. The improvement in recycling rates is testament to how green behaviours can be motivated by rewards. Whilst it’s too early to show annual recycling results for Wokingham Borough Council, recent comments from the Borough suggest that the service change implemented this year, which included launching Recyclebank, is on track to provide £1m of savings (1). Similar promise has been shown in Lambeth, where we are delighted to have contributed to the service changes that have seen a double digit increase in the amount of recycling collected from estates. We’re excited about all that’s ahead for all Recyclebank boroughs as we head into 2013”
