The AARK Wildlife Refuge to Benefit from Area Recyclers

PHILADELPHIA – Oct. 2, 2008 – Recyclebank® and George Leck and Son Inc., a waste removal company in Bucks County, announced today that they have joined forces to save area wildlife by partnering with The Aark. Located in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, The Aark provides temporary sanctuary for thousands of injured and orphaned birds and mammals annually.

Recyclebank and George Leck and Son have been working together to create cleaner, greener communities in the Lower Bucks County suburbs since April of 2007. Recyclebank’s unique incentive program enables households to earn Recyclebank Points for recycling. Residents can redeem Points for everything from basic needs to luxurious pleasures. With over 400 brand name national and local retailers across the country to motivate residents, area recycling rates have increased dramatically. Participating retailers include Bed Bath & Beyond, Coca-Cola, CVS/pharmacy and Kiss My Face. Local retailers include Isaac Newton’s, Shady Brook Farms, ACME and Newtown Hardware Store.

Participants can also convert their Points into donations for select charitable organizations, like local schools environmental programs, non-profits, and now, under this new initiative from George Leck and Son, to The Aark. Recyclebank will contribute $10 for every 100 Points donated by area residents, with the hopes of giving $10,000.

“George Leck and Son has been a part of the community for over 30 years,” said Walt Leck, CEO of George Leck and Son Waste Removal. “We work hard to help our community and our environment by increasing recycling rates. It is only natural that we would extend our commitment and help save the wildlife area wildlife.”

Aark also has over thirty years of dedicated experience in aiding the care and rehabilitation of birds and mammals in the area. Founder Mary Jane Stretch and her daughter, Executive Director Leah Stallings have divided the work of the Aark into three major areas - Rehabilitation, Education and Training; each with the common goal of fostering the care and understanding of wildlife.

Stretch is a frequent speaker before national, state and local groups. Her work has been featured on such national television programs as the “Today Show” and her life’s dedication has been chronicled in recent books: The Swan in My Bathtub and, more recently, For the Love of Wild Things.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity that both Walt Leck and Recyclebank are offering, said Stretch. “We are always looking for ways to get the word out in the community and we certainly need funding to do the work we do. Every cent we receive goes toward helping wild animals in Pennsylvania.”
