Customers, Local Businesses and the Planet reap the rewards

Sioux Falls, S.D. – January 8, 2009 – Recyclebank and Novak Sanitary Services announced today that residential recycling tonnages have more than doubled after implementing the Recyclebank Rewards program. Novak Sanitary Service launched Recyclebank, a rewards program to dramatically increase household recycling volumes, in October, to over 13,000 residents in Sioux Falls.

“Recyclebank has proven to be an overwhelming success for our customers in Sioux Falls. We have already exceeded our initial goal of more than doubling residential recycling volumes this month,” said Bob Novak, Division Vice President of Novak Sanitary Services. “In fact, our households diverted over 906 tons of recyclables in just three short months. Most rewarding is to see our customers enthusiastic about participating, redeeming their rewards and working toward a more sustainable environment.”

Recyclebank motivates households and communities to recycle by measuring the amount of recyclables from each household and then converting the weight into Recyclebank Points. These Points can be viewed and redeemed at with over 950 national and local Recyclebank Reward Partners.

Participating households redeem their Recyclebank Points with national Recyclebank Reward Partners such as Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, Green Mountain Coffee, and CVS/pharmacy, as well as with local retailers such as Lewis Drug, Big-O-Tires, Sioux Falls Music, Play it Again Sports, Nyberg’s Ace Hardware. On average, a household can earn hundreds of dollars in reward value through their recycling efforts.

“We decided to partner with Recyclebank to provide our customers with an innovative way to become better stewards of the environment. It’s especially wonderful to offer these rewards for our local businesses and savings to our customers during these tough economic times,” said Novak.

"Sioux Falls households are a great example of Recyclebank’s mission in action,” said Ron Gonen, co-founder and CEO of Recyclebank. “Recyclebank brings residents environmental solutions with direct economic benefits, while helping cities across the country recycle to their fullest potential.”

Recyclebank services households in 15 states with plans for a national rollout in 2009. To date, Recyclebank households have collectively diverted well over 60,000 tons of waste from landfills, saving over 45 million gallons of oil and more than 680,000 trees.
