Recycle, Record, Reward

Leading waste management company Veolia Environmental Services is today officially announcing its partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to deploy the Recyclebank Service in order to motivate homes to recycle and divert waste from landfill.

Working on a Recycle, Record, Reward™ system, Veolia Environmental Services and Recyclebank will be piloting this unique project with the Royal Borough to increase household recycling in the area. Recyclebank currently services 18 states across America and has helped city authorities dramatically increase recycling participation in places like New Jersey and Massachusetts.

The scheme will be trialled initially with up to 4000 homes for the collection of green waste. Households can activate and view their personalized Recyclebank Account on Recyclebank’s website or via its call centre, in order to begin receiving Recyclebank Points for recycling.

The method is simple and consists of providing residents with a wheelie bin fitted with an identification device which is scanned by the vehicle mounted equipment and records the amount of materials collected per household. Participating homes are then awarded Recyclebank Points based on either the frequency of participation or the amount of materials collected; these Points can then be redeemed at various local and national businesses for goods or services or as a donation to participating charities.

Paul Levett, Deputy Chief Executive for Veolia Environmental Services says: ‘’Although the scheme is still at a very early stage, we are very excited to be working in partnership with the Royal Borough and Recyclebank to bring this programme to the UK. This is a project that has yielded fantastic results in the US and has the potential to change the way we think about recycling in the UK.’’

Ron Gonen, CEO of Recyclebank said: “Recyclebank is proud to have the opportunity launch our programme internationally in the United Kingdom with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and Veolia Environmental Services. Recyclebank’s goal is to reward residents for recycling across the UK, educate residents about their environmental footprint, and to empower residents to engage in actions that improve the environment.”

Cllr Liam Maxwell, the Royal Borough’s lead member for sustainability said: “I am very pleased to be working with Veolia and Recyclebank to bring this innovative programme to our residents. It will reduce our landfill tax liability and give residents rewards that they can use in local shops and businesses – a great way to help the local economy. It also reinforces our ongoing commitment to weekly bin collections.”

Veolia Environmental Services works in partnership with local authorities to help communities lower their impact on the environment and turn waste into a resource. To learn more about Veolia Environmental Services or Recyclebank please visit: or
