The city of Phoenix and RecycleBank have expanded a program offering incentives to people who recycle, bringing the total to more than 100,000 city customers.

Phoenix and RecycleBank announced the partnership on Nov. 30 with 30,000 homes. The city added 35,000 on Jan. 18, and RecycleBank plans to add another 35,000 by the end of March.

“Phoenix continues to lead the way in creating a greener, more sustainable city,” said Phoenix City Councilman Michael Johnson. “Partnering with RecycleBank is a way to protect our environment, invigorate our local economy, keep our community clean and deliver meaningful everyday savings to the households of Phoenix.”

Under the program, reward credits are given based on the amount of recyclable materials hauled away from homes. The credits can be used to claim gift cards, groceries or other merchandise from national and local retailers.
