Ian Yolles, the Chief Sustainability Officer at Recyclebank, speaks with Kierstin De West in her latest Experts behind the Experts interview to discuss his view of the word "sustainability," how RecycleBank is using multiple forms of currency to motivate behavior change with consumers and why he believes the best brands are built from the "inside-out."

Ian oversees Recyclebank's sustainability agenda and is responsible for ensuring it is integrated into all aspects of the organization's brand strategy, consumer experience and partnerships.

Prior to joining Recyclebank, Ian was a co-founder and Vice President of Marketing and Brand Communications at Nau, an innovative social venture apparel company in Portland, Oregon. Prior to Nau, Ian worked as a marketing professional at two of the most successful sports apparel companies in the world, Nike and Patagonia. At Nike, he served in a succession of senior brand marketing roles including Director of Apparel Marketing, Director of Digital Marketing and Director of Brand Marketing. While at Patagonia, Ian was responsible for product development, marketing and brand management across all distribution channels. Before joining Patagonia, Ian pursued his interest in innovative business practices as the Director of Social Inventions and member of the executive leadership team for The Body Shop Canada. During the early part of his career he merged his passion for the outdoors with his interest in human development working as the Executive Director of Outward Bound in Canada.
