Allied Waste of Chattanooga and RecycleBank have teamed up to offer a recycling rewards program to households in Hamilton, Walker, and Catoosa Counties, starting April 19.

RecycleBank is a rewards program that motivates people to engage in greener behaviors, like recycling, by rewarding them with points, which are redeemable at local and national retailers, restaurants, pharmacies, grocers and more.

On Monday, Allied Waste began delivering new, wheeled recycling carts to Allied Waste customers in the three counties.

With RecycleBank comes a new way to recycle—single stream—in which all recyclables (paper, plastic, cardboard, aluminum and tin—however, no glass) go into one container.

Beginning April 19, when residents recycle, the amount of refuse is recorded by route and converted into RecycleBank points which get credited to that route’s participating recyclers.

Points can be used to “shop” for rewards from hundreds of businesses in more than 20 categories which includes local businesses like Pump It Up of Chattanooga, Marble Slab Creamery, Smoothie King, The Tennessee Aquarium, Bones' Smokehouse, Greenlife Grocer, Rock/Creek Outfitters, Creative Discovery Museum, the Chattanooga Lookouts and many more.

National businesses and brands include Nature Made, Friskies, Fancy Feast, Coca-Cola, Clorox's Greenworks, CVS/pharmacy, McDonald’s, Huggies, Bed Bath & Beyond, Dick's Sporting Goods and many more.

There is even an option to donate points to schools throughout the nation through the RecycleBank Green Schools Program. Points are converted into cash for school environmental programs and projects.

Active members can experience a potential savings of at least $100-200 a year—all for just recycling.

Most RecycleBank members redeem up to half of their earned reward points with local rewards partners, providing economic development and involving the local business community in the recycling effort.
