South Philadelphia High School

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Land Beautification and Cultivation
Budget: $2500

South Philadelphia High School is an urban neighborhood public school in the School District of Philadelphia. Currently, 917 students, grades 9‐12.

Our proposed Green Plan is to create a student-designed arboretum that would enhance currently under-utilized space on the campus. Students will take responsibility for the research, planning, planting and maintenance of the arboretum and will create informational signage that will enable community members to learn about the plants and the project itself. Community members will also be invited to take part in volunteer days in the arboretum. This project will beautify the school's campus, which is a major landmark in our neighborhood.
