Flipswap strives to empower a world of sustainable consumer electronics through innovative services and new technology.Founded in 2005, Flipswap pioneered the incentive driven recycling and reuse of mobile phones and other consumer electronic devices. Today, Flipswap offers trade in services for many different categories of consumer electronics to thousands of retailers, eTailer, mobile phone carriers and distributors on 4 continents. In addition, Flipswap offers a broad spectrum of services from demand planning to basic distribution services.At Flipswap we are committed to protecting and conserving our planet’s natural resources. Flipswap’s reLeaf initiative plants 1 tree for every phone that is recycled through our trade in services in the USA. In 2009 Flipswap planted nearly 150k trees in tree planting problems worldwide. Flipswap also participated in the the United Nations Environment Programme Billion Tree campaign through their tree planting partners MokuGift.*Where do all of the mobile devices go?*Flipswap attempts to repurpose all of the devices that we collect. Many consumers may chose to upgrade to a new mobile device before their old one reaches the end of its useful life. We provide incentive for consumers in the form of cash, RecycleBank points, airline miles and donations to charitable organizations to trade in their device so they can be reused.Flipswap began as an effort to explore the “Reuse” aspect of the “Three Green R’s”, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We understand the best way to keep used devices and other electronics out of landfills is to put them in the hands of people who can use them a second or third time around. It wasn’t long before we realized that we had covered the other “Rs” as well.*Reduce* Flipswap reduces the number of new mobile devices and other devices pushed into service by providing fully functional used alternatives to consumers across the globe. Beyond this, our warehouse is 100% green, where minimal waste is a primary focus.*Reuse* Flipswap’s services put millions of electronic devices back into service that would otherwise be piling up in our landfills every year. The vast majority of the devices that Flipswap receives can be reused by consumers without any need for repair. Some devices require some simple repair then can be used either as replacement phones for warranty exchange or simply an inexpensive new phone for a student.*Recycle* Flipswap is able to re-purpose nearly all of the millions of mobile phones and iPods, and other consumer electronics that we receive each year. Unfortunately, some of those devices can not be reused and must be recycled. Flipswap has always insisted on the most eco-friendly methods from our recycling partners. Flipswap works closely with our recyclers to ensure that any device that has reached the end of its useful life will be recycled using the most responsible techniques available.In cases where we recycle, we are extremely conscientious. All end of life devices we receive are sent to Sims Recycling Solutions. This internationally recognized recycler has facilities all over the world and meets ISO 14001 environmental management standards, ensuring that not an ounce of hazardous material ends up in our landfills.
