Second graders will clean litter from the outside of the school several times this year. We will also research the best type of tree to plant in front of the school. The students will plant and grow tomato plants and sunflower seeds, and then in the spring they will bring them home.
We will research environmentally safe products to use like baking soda, vinegar, and club soda. We will talk about turning off lights, water, and television sets when leaving a room. We will then make graphs showing the results of students participating. We will also talk about and practice recycling by bringing in cereal boxes and make folders out of them.
The problem we face is a lack of awareness about actions we can take to help preserve our earth. This proposal will educate the students, their parents, and the community. Hopefully with all this attention to the earth, we will all become better at being “green”.
Why we do this
RecycleBank makes every effort to be a good neighbor and an active contributor in the neighborhoods in which we do business. We believe in working with today’s kids to build strong and vital communities as well as future environmental leaders. Our RecycleBank Green Schools Program offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and our environment.
In addition to the great grant opportunity, we believe households will turn their homes inside out trying to find more recyclables, so they can earn more Points to donate and redeem. In our plan, everybody wins, especially the environment.
