Catholic Charities is responsible for directing and coordinating the charitable and social service programs of the Diocese of Wilmington. It operates a wide range of human services, working in concert with other religious, non-profit, and public agencies, and in collaboration with the business and professional communities. Catholic Charities serves the residents of the Diocese from nine locations throughout Delaware and Marylands Eastern Shore. Annually, Catholic Charities serves approximately 80,000 individuals, regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay.
Specific program areas include: addiction & substance abuse counseling, adoption, certified alcohol and drug counselor training, child and adult care food program, community based intensive outpatient counseling for children, crisis alleviation, domestic violence intervention and anger management counseling, HIV services, immigration and refugee resettlement services, parish social ministry, and pregnancy counseling.
Catholic Charities runs two thrift centers that recycle gently used clothing, household appliances, furniture, and other goods for resale at reduced prices or for distribution to those in crisis. It also operates three residential programs: a maternity home for homeless teens and young women; a children’s home for youth with emotional and behavioral problems; and a 30-day homeless shelter.
