Examples of this type of information are the frequency with which members recycle and the weight or volume of the materials recycled. We will not share information about the content of the material recycled. RecycleBank may also share information about the aggregate volume or weight of material recycled and redemption habits of an aggregation of many households.
How Information is Used
RecycleBank uses Household Recycling Data to record member participation to determine how many RecycleBank Points have been earned, and to fulfill reward requests.
RecycleBank may aggregate the recycling data, and other member actions as well as the member redemption data from RecycleBank participants. RecycleBank may also disclose the aggregate information to third parties. This aggregate information does not contain any PII.
RecycleBank may use member program data and PII to send relevant offers or allow affiliates to send relevant offers and information that may be of interest to specific RecycleBank members.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS SPECIFIC TO CURBSIDE RECYCLING
Definitions specific to Curbside Recycling
"RecycleBank Container" means a Recycling Container which may be provided to the Participating Household for curbside recyclers. The Registered Participant and Participating Household agree that if provided with a RecycleBank Container, RecycleBank or its Partners or their agents will have access to the RecycleBank Container for maintenance and administration purposes.
Accruing RecycleBank Points
For curbside recyclers, unless otherwise specified by a participating municipality or hauler, such as the case where a municipality or hauler has subscribed to a Community Weight Based approach, each time the Participating Household uses the RecycleBank Container for a Qualifying Recycling transaction, the net weight of the recycled materials is recorded and identifying information is transmitted from a identification technology on the RecycleBank Container. This information is transmitted to RecycleBank which then credits RecycleBank Points to the Account. The method of calculation of RecycleBank Points will be determined by RecycleBank, in its sole discretion and is subject to change without notice. In the event of equipment failure, or failure by the hauler to pick up or weigh recycled materials, or to transmit identifying information to RecycleBank, RecycleBank may, in its sole discretion, use other means to credit an Account. If any Participating Household contaminates the recycled materials with any non-recyclable items of any kind, the Participating Household may, at RecycleBank’s sole discretion, be subject to forfeiture of RecycleBank Points or dismissal from the Rewards Program.
Monthly accrual of RecycleBank Points earned through curbside recycling is subject to a maximum or cap established by RecycleBank which can change in RecycleBank’s sole discretion at any time without notice. The current monthly accrual of RecycleBank Points is also subject to change in RecycleBank’s sole discretion at any time without notice.
Disclaimer/Limitation of Liability
RecycleBank is not responsible for actions or omissions of any municipality trash/recycling hauler or other Partner, including, without limitation to: Missed pick-ups, inaccurate measurement of net weight of recyclable materials, damage to property or incorrect billing.

This means, for example, that we may change the number of Points earned for spending, or the number of Points required to redeem rewards, impose caps and/or fees on earning and/or redeeming Points, increase the annual and/or other program fees and/or cancel rewards.
For Cardmembers of The Gconomy Visa Card, the following transactions do not earn Points unless specified: convenience checks, balance transfers, cash advances, credit card fees, and finance charges. Points are also not earned on returns made on your account. Your account must remain open and in good standing to receive Points offered under this program. Good standing means you are not in default under the Cardmember agreement. All rewards are subject to availability and redemption pricing may change. Points are not transferable and will expire if there is no activity in a Cardmember’s account for over twelve (12) months. The earning rates, subject to change according to RecycleBank’s discretion, Cardmember(s) earn one (1) RecycleBank Points for every one dollar spent in new net retail purchase transactions (purchases less credits, returns, and adjustments) made with the Card anywhere it is accepted. Cardmember(s) earn one-point-five (1.5) RecycleBank Points for every one dollar spent in new net retail purchase transactions (purchases less credits, returns, and adjustments) made with the Card on participating RecycleBank Rewards Partners.
Not all RecycleBank Partners participate in the earn rate of one-point-five (1.5) RecycleBank Points for every one dollar spent. Merchants featured in The Boutique do not participate in the earn rate of one-point-five (1.5) RecycleBank Points for every one dollar spent. For a list of participating RecycleBank Partners, please click here. For the non-participating RecycleBank Partners, Cardmember(s) continue to earn one (1) RecycleBank Point for every one dollar spent. Points will be credited to your RecycleBank account at the close of your monthly billing statement. There are no earning caps for earning or redeeming RecycleBank Points with The Gconomy Visa Card.
RecycleBank contributes a portion of its proceeds from The Gconomy Visa Card directly to the RecycleBank Green Schools Program. The Green Schools Program offers numerous grants to schools in RecycleBank communities that work with children (ages 6-18) in the fields of environmental awareness, education, and action. RecycleBank will make a minimum donation of $1 million ($1,000,000) over the first five (5) years of the launch of The Gconomy Card. - When you redeem your Points for Rewards, your agreement is with the supplier of the reward and will be subject to their terms and conditions. We make arrangements for Points to be redeemed and this is subject to the terms and conditions that appear on the relevant page in the Get Rewards section of this website and on the physical rewards sent to Account Holders by email or in the post.
- When you use this website, you are subject to our Terms of Access for its use.
RecycleBank Account Holder Rules
- These Rules (including our Policy on Privacy and Data Protection) govern the collection and use of Points and set out the terms of the contract between Recycle Rewards Limited and each Account Holder. An Account Holder can register with the RecycleBank Rewards scheme by activating their account and can then earn Points by participating in recycling and certain other environmentally-conscious activities. If you sign up with RecycleBank you agree to accept these rules. We may refuse an application for any good reason.
- We will set up a RecycleBank Account to record Points earned and Rewards redeemed by each Account Holder. An Account Holder can assign Points for other people in the Household to redeem for Rewards but the Account Holder will be responsible for their activity and actions.
- All Account Holders must have a resident UK address. Changes of address must be notified to us, either by email: UKinfo@recyclebank.com or by phone 0800 077 6009.
- RecycleBank has Reward Partners with whom you redeem Points for Rewards. We award Points when you recycle through a RecycleBank scheme. RecycleBank reserves the right to offer additional opportunities to Account Holders to earn RecycleBank Points. These opportunities will be announced to Account Holders as they are introduced into the scheme. RecycleBank Reward Partners are companies and organisations with whom an Account Holder or Sub-Account Holder (i.e. a member of the household) can redeem Points to obtain goods and services or discounts. These Partners may change. Reward Partners determine the particular transactions on which Rewards may be redeemed. RecycleBank determines the number of Points required. There is a set number of Points needed to obtain a Reward. Each of these will change but in most cases there will be a base offer with further bonus offers that come and go. We cannot control every specific change in the participating companies or their offers but we will ensure that while the RecycleBank scheme for your area is in operation a range of offers is available.
- All Rewards are subject to availability. Transactions on which Points are redeemed are made directly with the relevant Partner and we have no responsibility for the delivery, standard, quality or otherwise of any goods and services received or supplied or the failure of a Partner to honour a redemption or make a specific Reward available. These transactions and all Rewards are subject to all applicable legal rules and the terms and conditions (including booking requirements, cancellation restrictions, return conditions, warranties and limitations of liability) of the Reward Partner.
- Points cannot be redeemed until credited to a RecycleBank Account.
- Points have no expiry date but are lost if the relevant RecycleBank Account is closed or the RecycleBank scheme ends. Where Points are redeemed for a Reward carrying a specified cash discount or benefit, the Reward may have an expiry date specified on it and will be subject to any other terms and conditions stated on the Reward or otherwise publicised.
- Redeemed Points cannot be used again. If a transaction on which Points are issued or redeemed is cancelled, reversed or not completed, we will reverse the associated Points movement when instructed by the relevant Reward Partner. If insufficient Points are available, or we suspect fraud or misconduct, Rewards may be refused or cancelled.
- An Account Holder can access the Points balance in respect of a RecycleBank Account and details of the Points earned or redeemed by him/her. We will correct a RecycleBank Account if it is shown to our reasonable satisfaction to be wrong but, unless there are clear records showing this, our decision is final.
- Points are personal to a RecycleBank Account and cannot normally be transferred unless an Account Holder chooses to transfer Points to an approved SubAccount Holder.
- Points can only be earned, held, transferred or redeemed as set out in these Rules. Any other use, award, sale, exchange or transfer of Points, or attempt to do so, is a serious breach of these Rules. Any Points not earned and held in accordance with these Rules will be invalid and cannot be redeemed for Rewards. Any such Points on a RecycleBank Account will be deducted and, if they are redeemed, we will ask the Reward Partner to cancel the relevant Rewards and we may take other appropriate action. Points from more than one RecycleBank Account cannot be combined to redeem for the same Reward. Points have no cash value.
- Anyone with a RecycleBank Account can redeem Points from that account for any available Reward, Security questions may be asked when a redemption is made or a Reward is issued. All Rewards redeemed on a RecycleBank Account which are sent by post will be sent to the latest address we have for the Account Holder.
- Our Policy on Privacy and Data Protection (which is part of these Rules) sets out the information that we will gather on Account Holders, how an Account Holder earns and redeems Points, how this information will be used and who it may be shared with. It is included on the sign-up page, on certain other materials we publish and is available from us. We will comply with our Privacy Statement – every Account Holder should read it carefully. RecycleBank does not rent, sell or share Account Holders' Personally Identifiable Information (PII) with any third party without Account Holder's expressed consent. RecycleBank may share non-PII with local authorities and haulers without your consent. Examples of this type of information are: the frequency with which members recycle, and the weight and volume of the materials recycled. RecycleBank may also share information about the aggregate volume, or weight, of material recycled; and redemption habits of an aggregation of many households. Account Holder's PII may be transferred by RecycleBank to RecycleBank's affiliates who process the PII on behalf of RecycleBank, as part of the RecycleBank scheme. This may involve transferring the PII outside the UK to such RecycleBank affiliates. If for any reason we need to transfer personal information outside the European Union for a specific purpose, we will ensure that it is treated to UK standards. Weight and volume of materials recycled as part of the RecycleBank scheme are collected by hauliers on our behalf. Hauliers may use RFID located within recycle bins to identify which household the bin relates to. We reserve the right to report any activities that we in good faith believe to be unlawful.
- "Good Standing" means the Participant (i) has registered, and accepted these Terms and Conditions, in the RecycleBank Rewards Program, (ii) has not terminated his/her participation in the Program, (iii) if applicable, has used the RecycleBank Wheelie Bin only for Qualifying Recycling Transactions; (v) has not been determined by RecycleBank to have engaged in any practices deliberately conducted in an attempt to accrue and/or redeem RecycleBank Points in any way that is not consistent with the rules or intent of the RecycleBank Rewards Program; (v) has either earned or redeemed Points in the previous six (6) months; and (vi) is not in default under these Terms and Conditions.
- Account holders or sub account holders may be contacted from time to time and asked to participate in media opportunities, such as press briefings, interviews or photo calls. There is no obligation to participate and non-participation will not affect this agreement.
- RecycleBank does not own, and is not responsible for, the recycle bins used as part of theRecycleBank scheme.
- Rewards should be kept secure, like cash. We cannot be responsible for any unauthorised use of Points or any lost or stolen Rewards. If the Account Holder thinks an unauthorised person has become aware of any security code, password or account number, they should contact the RecycleBank Customer Service Centre immediately.
- We may close any RecycleBank Account on which no Points have been earned or redeemed for a continuous period of at least six months. We may also, on notifying the Account Holder, immediately suspend or terminate the rights of any Account Holder, and/or close any relevant RecycleBank Account, if they breach these Rules, if we reasonably believe that they have dealt with Points in a manner not permitted by these Rules or any applicable Partner's terms and conditions, if there is any theft from or misconduct in connection with us, any Partner, if they supply false or misleading information to us or if they are abusive or offensive to any member of our staff. An Account Holder can close his/her RecycleBank Account at any time by notifying us. If a RecycleBank Account is closed everyone's rights to redeem Points from that RecycleBank Account are lost.
- Each time the participating household presents their recycling bin for collection, the net weight of the recycled materials is recorded and identifying information is transmitted from the RFID tag on the recycling bin. This information is transmitted to RecycleBank which then credits RecycleBank Points to the Account. With the exception of Account holders participating on the Green waste trial in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, householders will be credited with 5.5 RecycleBank Points for every complete kilogramme of recyclable material collected from their household. Participants of the Green waste trial in Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead will receive 25 RecycleBank Points each time their green waste wheelie bin is presented for collection. From time to time, and not withstanding the foregoing, the rate of RecycleBank Points credited per kilogramme may be increased or decreased by us and we will make reasonable endeavours to communicate these changes to all participants in a timely manner. This policy will be updated to reflect any future changes made.
- In the event that the information transmitted is either delayed, destroyed or not deliverable, Recyclebank in its sole discretion will award the members accounts either of the following resolutions: an amount calculated to be the individual’s average weight if sufficient history has been generated. Sufficient history would be arrived at if there have been 5 or more properly weighed pickups. Or, a set amount manually added to all members involved in the missed credits.
- In addition, if a recorded pickup is not applied to a member’s account, a set amount of Points (50) will be applied to the accounts that have not received their credit within 10 business days of their scheduled pickup.
- If any Participating Household contaminates the recycled materials with any non-recyclable items of any kind, the Participating Household may, at RecycleBank’s sole discretion, be subject to forfeiture of RecycleBank Points or dismissal from the Program.
- For kerbside recyclers, unless otherwise specified by a participating council or hauler, such as the case where a council or hauler has subscribed to a Community Weight Based approach, each time the Participating Household uses the RecycleBank Wheelie Bin for a Qualifying Recycling transaction, the net weight of the recycled materials is recorded and identifying information is transmitted from a identification technology on the RecycleBank Wheelie Bin. This information is transmitted to RecycleBank which then credits RecycleBank Points to the Account up to a maximum of 440 Points per month , including the effect of any promotional multiplier offers that may be applied to collections from time to time.
- If any Participating Household contaminates the recycled materials with any non-recyclable items of any kind, the Participating Household may, at RecycleBank’s sole discretion, be subject to forfeiture of RecycleBank Points or dismissal from the Program.
- We may make changes to these Rules. Earning or redeeming Points on a RecycleBank Account will constitute acceptance of the revised Rules. We may suspend or terminate the RecycleBank scheme but will give as much notice as we reasonably can before we do so. If we sell or transfer RecycleBank to another company we may transfer all of our rights and obligations under these Rules without any further consent and may disclose or transfer all PII wehold about Account Holders to the actual new owner. The new owner will be able to process the Account Holder's PII as part of the continuation of the scheme, but such a disclosure or transfer will not otherwise alter the rights of such Account Holders in respect of the use that can be made of such information by such other company and Account Holders will be entitled to leave the scheme.
- RecycleBank's only responsibilities with respect to the RecycleBank scheme are set out in these Rules which are subject to English law. We will be liable to an Account Holder or SubAccount Holder who suffers loss as a result of our breach of these Rules and, if so, our sole liability will be to credit to the relevant RecycleBank Account any Points which have been wrongly deducted or should have been credited but were not. These Rules shall not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. These Rules prevail in the event of any conflict or inconsistency with any other communications, including advertising or promotional materials.
